Life Masks

My life masks were inspired by the work of a Canadian artist, Miya Turnbull. She creates wonderful life like masks using paper mache.  She was generous with her encouragement and advice and I was intrigued and inspired.  Plaster of Paris casting was new to me and definitely a challenge.    Note that my mask below with the green stitching is embroidered gauze over the plaster cast of my face.  I look forward to playing with this idea more in the future.
Masked self #1 Paper dyed using shibori technique and fit to mold. 2019-20
Masked self #2 Paper overlay of second mask which really didn't work for me but fut behind the top mask for a good effect. 2019-20
