TogetherVoice
TogetherVoice was conceived of, grew and birthed during the Pandemic of 2020. I envisioned a piece that would bring strangers together in a show of strength, beauty with a unified message during a very uncertain time.
The word they would say was "Together" Using personal connections and social media, I was able to reach out to the world. I requested that people use their language of origin in any way they wished, singing, whispering, shouting or just speaking. They could be alone or get family involved. Then, they just needed to message me their audio clip. Again using my phone, the clips were made into sound wave forms. I had a beautiful piece of vintage linen and I started embroidering the wave forms onto the linen with cotton. After 10 months, I had 136 wave forms stitched and the piece was complete. I knew when I received audio clips from the women’s section of the San Vittore prison in Milan, Italy – all saying TOGETHER – that this had become bigger than me. I cried. It has been very gratifying. This piece was accepted into the 2022 Materials Hard and Soft International Contemporary Craft Competition and Exhibition, juror, Tanya Aguiniga. |
